Servant Leadership

Purpose: Servant Leadership prepares students to explore their leadership potential by receiving trainings on servant leadership along with studying the key characteristics of being a servant leader. It is a service organization through Highland Community College. Juniors and Seniors earn HCC credit for taking this course. The course includes hands-on learning opportunities to help students explore and implement servant leadership in their community with the help of their mentor at Eastland.

Meetings: Servant Leadership has designated meeting times on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month as needed at the high school. We meet once a month on Saturday mornings for our trainings at Highland Community College from 9-12.

How to Join: This program is for students to take part in their Junior and Senior years. At the end of their Sophomore year they fill out and submit an application to the mentor for the Eastland chapter. Eastland is only allowed to have up to 10 in the program at one time.

Yearly Activities: Our regional project the last several years has been the Hearts and Hands for Hunger project. This is a service project to earn money to pack a certain amount of meals that are then sent to other countries. Our goal has never been less than 6000 meals. Our group project changes from year to year as the Eastland chapter sees fit.

Expectations: Servant Leaders are responsible for having 16 hours of community service first and second semester each year. They are also expected to take part in both the regional project as decided on by the Highland Community College servant leadership group and the group project as decided upon by the Eastland servant leadership group. Attendance is mandatory at the monthly meetings held at HCC and the end of the year banquet in April.
