FFA

Purpose: FFA no longer stands for Future Farmers of America. It stands for the National FFA Organization. This is to show people that the FFA is all inclusive and not just for those people looking to go into an agriculture career or be a farmer. In the FFA you have many opportunities to develop leadership skills while learning about agricultural opportunities. Our goal is to develop your potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.

Meetings: Varies based on involvement in activities. If you are involved in contests there are more days that you will meet and more practices that you will have to go to. The regular scheduled FFA meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of the month during learning lab.

How to Join:  You must be in an agriculture class to be in the FFA. You may take a semester of an ag class and be in for that year. For every year you want to be in the FFA you must take an agriculture class.

Yearly Activities: The Eastland FFA Chapter participates in approx. 30 contests throughout the year that vary in topic. These contests include things like agriculture mechanics, public speaking, livestock and dairy cattle evaluation, soils judging, dairy foods judging, job interview, parliamentary procedure, Agriculture business and many more. In addition to the conference the FFA attends multiple leadership conferences throughout the year. Each is focused toward a specific age group. Some of these include 212 Conference, Women in Agriculture, Farm Bureau Leadership Conference, Washington Leadership Conference, State and National FFA Convention, Greenhand Conference and more. The FFA is also involved in competing with record books which are based on jobs and activities that students do throughout the year. We compete at local, district and state levels with these. Throughout the year the FFA participates in over 60 activities at various levels. We try to do a lot at the local and section level with other schools in the area as well.

Community Service: Community service is a key component to the FFA. Some of the activities we have done in the past include the Memorial Day Breakfast, Highway Clean- Up, Shannon Park Build, Donations for Troops, Food and Clothing Drives, Blood Drives, National Day of Service at State FFA Convention and Agriculture Legislative Day in Springfield.

Expectations: To participate in Fruit Sales, FFA Test Plot, Greenhouse Sales and that you participate in a minimum of 1 FFA activity per semester. The more you are involved the more you will get out of the organization.
