First semester is a continuation of genetics expanding on what is learned in Biology I. This also includes a unit on biotechnology in which students learn electrophoresis and analysis of human diseases. Second semester includes topics in classification, microbiology, evolution, viruses, bacteria, and protozoa.
Students will be able to complete monohybrid, dihybrid, and trihybrid crosses.
Students will get experience using a gel electrophoresis.
Students will learn about the evolutionary theory.
Students will learn about classification and how to classify various items.
Students will learn about ecology and be able to apply it to various items.
o Molecular genetics
o Human genetics
o History of life
o Evolutionary theory
o Principles of ecology
o Biomes, ecosystems, and communities
I grade on a point scale, therefore everything you complete will go toward you total points. Tests or large projects are worth more points than a homework worksheet but it is important to complete all activities and worksheets. Homework needs to be completed on time. One day late will be 75%, two days late will be 50%, and after that it will be a zero. If you are absent you are responsible to get the work you missed. You will have the number of days you were absent to complete the absent homework, if not turned in during that time frame the same late work percentages will apply. If you are absent and will not have my class on the next day due to block you are still required to come and see me either during passing periods or before or after school. It will be considered late if you wait till class time. Example: you are absent on Tuesday but don’t have my class till Thursday, you need to see me on Wednesday to get your homework so that you are caught up for class on Thursday. If you wait till Thursday, in this example, you will automatically have your work marked one day late.
