Course Description:

            This course focuses on the study of variables and linear expressions. Concepts incorporated into these include the following: solving equations, real numbers, formulas, polynomials, factoring, graphs, probability, statistics, solving systems of equations, decimals and percents, radicals, and quadratic equations.

            Addition and Subtraction Equations (Ch 3)

            Multiplication and Division Equations (Ch 4)

            Proportional Reasoning and Probability/Statistics (Ch 5)


Semester 2

    Function and Graphs (Ch 6)

            Linear Equations (Ch 7)

    Powers and Roots (Ch 8)

            Polynomials (Ch 9)

            Factoring (Ch 10)

            Quadratics (Ch 11) – selected sections

            Inequalities (Ch 12) – selected sections



Course Objectives:

Students will be able to

  • Evaluate expressions
  • Perform basic operations with integers
  • Solve linear equations
  • Solve proportion and percent problems
  • Explore and graph functions
  • Graph and interpret linear equations
  • Simplify powers and radicals
  • Perform basic operations with polynomials
  • Factor polynomials

Materials Needed:

            Each day, bring the following materials to class:

  1. Pencil and eraser (ABSOLUTELY NO PENS) – Work done in pen will not count!!!
  2. Paper or notebook
  3. Workbook
  4. Calculator- no calculator will be provided!
  5. Laptop

            35 %    Tests and major projects

            25 %    Quizzes and minor projects

            20 %    Homework

      5 %    Binder

              15 %  Participation
